This tune was composed by John Robertson, leader of a group called “The Scottish Country Dance Players” who recorded it on shellac in 1949(HMV B. 9752). As far as I know, he wasn’t a Pipe Major!
He also composed the music for “The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh”.
