Description

I tried to send a comment just now, but since I wasn’t signed in to SCDDB, it may not have gone… The original concept for this dance (in Sept 2012) was mine; but the choreography was entirely by Erika Ritzau, the instuctor of our little SCD group in Provence (“Clan McBedoin”). The idea was to celebrate the climbing of Mont Ventoux by the Tour de France (the 100th edition of the world toughest long-distance cycle race) on 14 July 2013. The first half, in strathspey tempo, represents the cyclists slogging up this awesome climb. Once they reach the top, the tempo changes to a reel: the lead couple do a brief victory dance, then whiz down to the bottom, at Bedoin. The only video at present on UTube was recorded at Pitlochry in April 2013. In November 2013, original music was composed for our signature dance by Alex Ross, leader of an Edinburgh Ceilidh Band. A fresh video has just (on 1 Feb 2015, in Montpellier) been made of the dance set to Alex Ross’s music : we hope it will soon be available on U-Tube. I wrote the notes you will find in the website of the Scottish Country Dancing Dictionary. If you would like me to write this up for you using different words (to avoid copyright infringement), let me know. I think our dance is rather good fun: but then, I would, wouldn’t I?..
