The village on Loch Lomond is called “Tarbet” (without an ‘r’) , not “Tarbert” which is a village on Loch Fyne.
I always think of “The Rest and be Thankful” as connecting “Loch Long” to “Loch Fyne”.
The road used to go straight up from the head of Glen Croe and the pass was indeed a place where one rested and was thankful! In recent years it has been re-engineered and had its sting drawn. It is now subject to many landslips!
