The notes say that “Abbot House is the oldest surviving building in Dunfermline, other than the Abbey, and dates back to at least 1561. It was one of the few buildings to survive the great fire of Dunfermline in 1624, and over its history has been (amongst other things) a town house, a metal workshop and a naval officers’ club. In the 1970s, it was used as a doctor’s surgery, where the deviser’s mother was based as a student nurse.”
