Dedicated to George Cooper, a founding member of the Melbourne and District Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. …

Dedicated to George Cooper, a founding member of the Melbourne and District Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. George was the inaugural Treasurer of the Branch and in total served as Treasurer for 26 years; he currently holds the position of Assistant Treasurer. He received the Society Scroll in 2002. Accomplished dancer in both the Highland and Scottish Country Dancing traditions, George is also musician (bagpipes and accordion), teacher and tutor. He was born in the small town of Glenbarry, near Banff in the north east of Scotland. June’s suggested music includes the tune ‘Miss Forbes’ Farewell to Banff’ composed by Isaac Cooper 1754–1820 (no relation to George).

Devised by June lnwood (1934–2018).

June received her Full Certificate in Melbourne in 1985. She taught at the Boxhill & District Scottish Society class for over 30 years, as well as at Branch weekend and day schools and the Celtic Group. She was Secretary of the Melbourne and District Branch Teachers’ Panel and a committee member of the Australian Teachers’ Association. She possessed a vast musical knowledge and a quirky sense of humour and those two attributes are well demonstrated by her music choice for the dance.
