The deviser has adjusted the dance to “begin by 1C crossing and retaining right hand on bars 1–2. The rest of the dance remains the same.” See https://my.strathspey.org/dd/issue/3216/ of 6 August 2023.

Kelburn’s Farewell was on the programme for the Kelburn Scottish Country Dancing Club’s tea dance on June 19, 2022.

The dance was devised by the club’s tutor, Chris Totton, and its name reflects the fact that the club is closing down after 63 years of existence.

The dance was held in St Michael’s church hall in Kelburn, Wellington, New Zealand. Live music was by Aileen Logie, Hilary Ferral and Jason Morris.

The deviser asked Aileen Logie to write the lead tune for the dance. Aileen writes: “I wrote a tune that night - a tune which has happy bits and sad bits, reflecting all the good years of the Kelburn club and their decision to close. A few days later, Chris sent me the dance and mentioned that he liked Vale of Atholl on the Heather Hills CD. My jig happened to go pretty well with these tunes, and so the set was made quite easily. I just needed to change the tunes to an ABBA configuration to fit with Chris’s dance. (Vale of Atholl is a well known pipe band based in Pitlochry, Scotland - it wins lots of trophies globally. The tunes are in the style of pipe jigs).”

Aileen’s lead tune is also called Kelburn's Farewell.
