Description

Dear E-crib team,

the e-crib of this dance states that the contained chase should be danced counter-clockwise.

However, the linked leaflet does not mention this. Furthermore, the Tam O’ Shanter version of Ann Malley was also published in the RSCDS Toronto magazine “Set & Link” where it states explicitly “Everyone CHASE C’W.” - which I would interpret as “clockwise”.

The only source I know that shows cclw is the video that is linked to the dance.

Do you have any additional descriptions that point towards counter’clw?

If you do not have the magazine version of the description and want to get it, please just tell me and I send it to Roland or Eric(?).

Best wishes, Heiko

Disposition changed to »Needs help« (previously »New«)

I have two files for this dance, neither of them an original description. Both say the chase [25-32] is cclw. Can someone find an original?

Dear Heiko,

If you have the original Set & LInk do please send it to us. Google does find http://www.dancescottish.ca/archives-set%26link.html as a page where older Set and Link issues can be found so just a date of the issue may be enough.

At one point I did try and make sure the dances listed on https://www.dancescottish.ca/leaflet-dances.html were linked to the Set and Link virtual publication https://my.strathspey.org/dd/publication/1290/ but Tom o’ Shanter is not among those listed. Perhaps we can point them to one they missed.

I discovered there is a more up to date web page with all the Toronto leaflets and links to their Set and Link articles at https://www.dancescottish.ca/leaflets.html. I have now linked that to the Set and Link SCDDB entry.

Remember the chase is done by (evil) witches, and those usually run widdershins, which goes cclw. The cclw chase also flows far better after the preceding “Circle6 and back”: three couples are already moving cclw, and 1c just joins in. For a clw chase the three circling couples would have to change direction.
