Description

Hi Eric,

when adding more data about the Angus Book you entered quite a strange date “1 January 9999”. I guess that was not on purpose.

FYI: the online PDF version was produced by a “Mark Noble” in 2009 (maybe you have seen that anyway as well). Possibly he has some knowledge about the original book. However, I have no clue how to contact him, as he does not show up in the Strathspey list.

Best wishes, Heiko

That silly date was intentional, meant to draw attention (and succeeded!). I did not want to guess, and would still like to know the real year when the book was first made.

One of the dances was devised in 2006. I sometimes think it might be useful to be able to give a range of dates when the precise date is unavailable.

To be fair, this is “publication date”, and a book is usually published at some specific point in time. A range of dates wouldn’t make a lot of sense in this context. If there is doubt as to the actual publication date, it would be reasonable to add a note to that effect to “Extra Info”.

I have added a note in “Extra Info”, and wanted to remove the date, but the software insists that the date MUST be filled in. So I had to put in a “crazy” date to avoid giving false information. Anselm, if you can make the date format freer (not require month+day, allow “empty”) it would make data editing easier. Eric

For the publication date, you can enter “?” as the date if the actual date is unknown. You can also enter just the year or the year and the month, these should all work. (I tested it the other day.)

Date is unknown. “?” entered. I now have a copy of the Angus book. That shows many tunes, which I have added to SCDDB. Perhaps some musicians may like to check for errors. Fixed. Eric
