##>> The citation by Liverpool Branch supporting the award of the Society’s Scroll of Honour to Derek in 2003 can be summarised:

Derek Haynes began Scottish country dancing in 1953 and in 1954 joined Liverpool Branch where he became a Branch teacher, committee member and treasurer. As well as taking a regular class, Derek taught both country and Highland dancing at many day and weekend schools throughout the UK and at the Society’s Summer and Winter Schools.

Derek was also a deviser of Scottish country dances and, in addition to three published by the RSCDS, he produced several collections of dances sold in aid of cancer charities.

Derek died in April 2005 and was the subject of a two pages of reminiscence and appreciation in the first issue of the Society magazine, The Scottish Country Dancer, in Autumn 2005. ##<<
