Experienced dancers will notice the resemblance between this dance and The Clansman (RSCDS Book 32), the original dance with a Targe. The main change is to the first 8 bars, which I hope dancers will find more straightforward.

A broadsword was traditionally used by a Highlander along with a targe.

1s+2s dance the Targe: To begin, 1L+2L turn RH three-quarters while their partners dance anti-clockwise one quarter of the way around them. Finish on the sidelines with 1s below 2s.
